Buxtehude: Cantatas (Ton Koopman)
Ginza
Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) was Danish-born, but made his career in Germany. He was celebrated as an organist (Johann Sebastian Bach was among his admirers) and as a composer, with many sacred vocal works in his output. The works in this collection range from chamber-scale music to grandly conceived pieces for soloists, choir and instruments. The distinguished Dutch keyboard-player and conductor Ton Koopman (b.1944) founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1979. The group consists of internationally renowned baroque specialists. Conductor and orchestra are joined here by singers acknowledged as leading specialists in the baroque repertoire.
