Gillespie Dizzy: Milestones of a legend 1948-61
Ginza
The trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and the alto saxophonist Charlie Parker are among the founding fathers of modern jazz, which marked the transition from swing to bebop in the 1940s. While they earned their money in Bigbands during the day, they congregated at New York clubs such as the Minton"'s Playhouse after their regular engagements, where they met pianist Thelonious Monk, drummer Max Roach, Kenny Clarke, and many others to explore the complex harmonies and rhythms that turned jazz from a strict dance music to concert music.
