10 CD compilation that offers a broad and fascinating glimpse into traditional Irish Celtic songs as well as into modern versions and influences. On this unique set instruments typical of Irish traditional music, for instance fiddle, tin whistle, bagpipes, button accordion, banjo, mandolin, piano, bouzouki, frame drum, and traverse flute are played by proven performers, including Mick Moloney, John Doyle and Liz Carroll. A special highlight are the recordings made in 2007 during a concert in New York for which the cream of the scene - musicians, singers and dancers - came together for a two-day session. The result of this ""purely Irish session"" was recorded by American television and published as a much acclaimed film. Included in the session were, in addition to those already mentioned, star singers of the younger scene, such as Karan Casey and Susan McKeown and not forgetting renowned instrumentalists, for example Seamus Eagan and Tim Collins.
