Nina Simone was one of the great female voices of jazz. The US-American jazz and blues singer, pianist and songwriter Diva was, bar pianist, civil rights activist and with Bach and Beethoven as familiar as with jazz and blues, soul, gospel, pop. A graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School and with musical talents blessed abundantly she had mapped out as a pianist a career. But due to the political situation in America marked by racism her youth, she was left closed many doors. In a night club in Atlantic City in 1954, she found her own way eventually. The singer with the incomparable dark warm timbre, throaty, guttural, a scree of longings and dashed hopes (FAZ), became the protagonist of Black Classical Music. In 1957 she gave her very self-willed and highly successful recording debut with Little Girl Blue. This, as the subsequent albums The Amazing Nina Simone, Nina Simone At Town Hall and Nina At Newport characterized the first years after an extraordinary career. Your Weggefährtinnen were artists who, like her, were to First Ladies of Jazz: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Anita O Day and Eartha Kitt, they also heard in the original albums of the crown jewels of Jazz History count, including Ella & Louis, Lady in Satin or Sarah Vaughan.
