Solomon"'s Knot: Magnificat/Christmas in Leipzig
Ginza
Determined to communicate the full power of 17th- and 18th-century music as directly as possible, the collective Solomon"'s Knot founded in London has been receiving great acclaim for their performances. This recording gives a picture of the musical life in Leipzig some 300 years ago, spanning the consecutive careers of three fascinating composers who led the musical activities in the city that time: Johann Schelle (1648-1701), Johann Kuhnau (1660-1722) and Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). The album includes the E-?at major Magnificat BWV 243a by the famous barock composer Bach, but also two lesser known works; the Magnificat in C major by Kuhnau as well as the Christmas cantata Machet die Tore weit by Schelle.
